OPERATIONS RESEARCH ANALYST

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Degree:
in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE (GS-09):
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of the principles, concepts, and practices of operations research analysis to apply scientific methods and techniques to analyze systems, processes, and/or operational problems and procedures; knowledge of the principles involved in conducting analytical investigations using scientific methodology and problem solving; knowledge of mathematics and analysis to perform limited phases of a larger assignment and prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence to communicate factual and procedural information clearly. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE (GS-11):
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. OR EDUCATION (GS-11):
Master's or equivalent graduate degree FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in- grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level and one year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Professional knowledge of the principles, concepts, and practices of operations research analysis to apply scientific methods and techniques to analyze systems, processes, and/or operational problems and procedures. 2. Knowledge of mathematics and analysis to perform studies and prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence to communicate factual and procedural information clearly. 3. Skill in applying the principles, concepts, and practices of the occupation sufficient to perform moderately difficult assignments in operations research analysis. 4. Ability to analyze, interpret and apply operations research rules and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend solutions to senior analysts. 5. Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions. 6. Ability to plan and organize work, and confer with co-workers effectively. Experience:
Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
