HEALTH TECHNICIAN (OPHTHALMOLOGY)

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes common diseases of the eye, their effects in ophthalmology, medical causes of eye disease, and basic anatomy and physiology of the visual system to provide intricate examination and treatment (to include assisting with surgery); minor and major surgical procedures to include:
cataract surgery (phacoemulsification and extra capsular methods), blepharoplastys, ocular muscle surgeries, chalazion, skin tag, xanthomas, papillomas epithelial cysts, NLD probe, laser procedures, ptosis repairs, trabeculectomy, dacryocystorhynostomy, laceration repairs; as well as surgical instruments and ophthalmic operating room equipment. OR EDUCATION:
Applicants must have one (1) full year graduate level education in a field related to the work of the position. Education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE:
You must submit a copy of transcripts FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in- grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of common diseases of the eye, their affects in ophthalmology, medical causes of eye disease, and basic anatomy and physiology of the visual system. 2. Knowledge of minor and major surgical procedures to include:
cataract surgery (phacoemulsification and extra capsular methods), blepharoplastys, ocular muscle surgeries, chalazion, skin tag, xanthomas, papillomas epithelial cysts, NLD probe, laser procedures, ptosis repairs, trabeculectomy, dacryocystorhynostomy, laceration repairs; as well as surgical instruments and ophthalmic operating room equipment. 3. Knowledge of ocular pharmacology, aseptic techniques, standardized and automated testing, and ocular emergency protocol. 4. Skill in the use of ophthalmic instruments to adapt various instruments to perform a full range of specialized tests and nonroutine diagnostic or treatment procedures requiring many steps. 5. Skill in operating commonly used ophthalmic equipment, computing ophthalmic formulas, adjusting and repairing optical products, using computer programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, optical ordering software), and documenting patient medical records. 6. Ability to analyze ophthalmic needs and counsel patients on concerns. PART-TIME OR UNPAID
Experience:
Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
