### Responsibilities
The Department of Military and Strategic Studies seeks interested applicants for up to two full-time faculty members beginning in the Summer 2019.
All faculty members are expected to contribute to the Academy's primary mission of developing leaders of character through exceptional teaching, scholarship, and service. The typical teaching load at USAFA is 3/3. At a minimum, the selectee can expect to teach one or more semester sections of the department's core (required) course, Airpower and Joint Operations Strategy. Airpower and Joint Operations Strategy provides cadets their professional cornerstone course in understanding the context, theory, and application governing military power and the use of force in the contemporary joint environment. Drawing from a range of literature, sophomore cadets study approaches to strategy, adaptively formulating and applying concepts to employ joint military forces in contemporary contexts and simulated environments. The course places particular emphasis on air, space, and cyberspace strategy and operations in the joint context. The successful applicant may also teach upper-level elective Military & Strategic Studies (MSS) courses as part of the MSS major. Elective courses include, but are not limited to, International Power Projection; Military Innovation and Transformation; Weapons, Warfare and Disruptive Effects, and advanced strategy courses in each of the military operational domains (air, land, maritime, space).
In addition to teaching, the selectee will be expected to develop his/her own research agenda and assist cadets in developing, executing, and analyzing their own research ideas. The Department's research areas of interest include national security, military strategy, and joint military operations across the spectrum of conflict. Responsibilities of the position also include fulfilling associated departmental duties.
All faculty members serve as role models for cadets and will be expected to be available to cadets and able to participate in a variety of cadet support and role-modeling activities in addition to teaching.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must demonstrate an active research agenda as evidenced by recent publications and conference presentations relevant to military and national security-related topics. A record of undergraduate teaching and academic service is also highly desired. We are particularly interested in applicants with a Ph.D. in Strategic Studies; Security Studies; International Relations; Political Science; Public Policy; Military Operational Art and Science; National Security; Modeling and Simulation; Educational Research, or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants with a record of research and publications relevant to national security strategy, military strategy, joint military operations, airpower, defense policy, international security, or other contemporary military-related subjects. Leadership experience in curriculum development and academic assessment is desired. Prior military experience is NOT required for these positions.
